Islamic Framing of a Science Curriculum: Providing Context

The problem: A secular curriculum is often seen as “neutral,” yet it is shaped by a worldview with its own assumptions about truth, knowledge, and human purpose—assumptions that conflict with the Islamic perspective. Science lessons, even unintentionally, shape how students understand reality. For example: *Saying science teaches us about “the world” can imply that anything outside scientific measurement isn’t real. *Defining facts only as what can be observed or measured may lead students to dismiss what cannot be sensed as “unfactual.” *Classifying humans as mammals can reinforce the idea that humans are merely advanced animals. The proposed solution: Identify where modern science education clashes with Islamic principles, then introduce each major topic with a lesson that frames it within a correct Islamic worldview. This resource is simple to use for teachers and homeschooling parents. Each topic includes a teacher guide, student guide, and lesson plans for grades 1–3 and 4–8.
